Rotavirus is the most common cause of severe diarrhea in infants and young children worldwide and of diarrheal deaths in developing countries. WHO has recommended inclusion of rotavirus vaccine in the National Immunization Schedules where under 5 mortality due to diarrheal diseases is ≥ 10%. 

Rotavac vaccine was licensed for use in India in 2014 and is manufactured by Bharat Biotech international limited. It is a live attenuated, monovalent vaccine containing a G9P[11] human strain isolated from an Indian child.
